The Observer closes after 57 years

The Observer Newspaper closed it's doors today, ending Cinema Dave's claim of being the longest standing film columnist in Broward County.

A free weekly newspaper, The Observer covered the North Broward Community, with an emphasis on Deerfield Beach, the northern most town in Broward County. The ownership changed during the 57 years, but David Eller purchased the paper in 1980 and the rest was history. David Eller passed away in November 18, 2017.

As a film columnist, Cinema Dave witnessed the end of an era and it seemed appropriate that The Observer closed at the end of this era. Yet the 20 years as the Observer's "Flicks" Columnist was a grand adventure. From meeting Fay Wray to Talia Shire, Cinema Dave is thankful for the opportunities that The Observer provided him.
