Life Affirming movies snubbed at the Academy Awards - CinemaDave

Jan. 31st, 2006 09:57 am Life Affirming movies snubbed at the Academy Awards

The Academy Award nominations went according to form.
The misery-loves-company-crowd dominated Oscar nominations.
Life affirming movies like "Cinderella Man" and "Walk the Line" were snubbed.

I will make every effort to see "Junebug," "The Constant Gardener" and the three animated best picture nominations, "Howl's Moving Castle," "Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" and "Tim Burton's Corpse Bride." I associate these movies being nationally released when Hurricane Wilma took away our South Florida electricity.

If you want to look at how the Oscar nominees shook out, then visit the official Oscar website at

Even though I say I won't, I'm always compelled to watch some of the Oscar telecast each year, and invariably end up asking myself why at the end.

The whole thing seems to be about internal film industry politics. So many brilliant works and performers have never even been nominated.

For me it's like an annual train crash I can't ignore.

Re: Oscar

You've got that right!
I once compared the Oscars with the Superbowl. Except that the Oscars seemed like a 52 to zero rout with 20 minutes left on the clock :)
