On a much more stark and serious note, **One Day You’ll Understand** opens tomorrow. A French film with English subtitles, legendary actress Jeanne Moreau portrays Rivka, the family matriarch who is a holocaust survivor. During the Klaus Barbie Nazi War crimes trial in 1987, Victor Bastien (Hippolyte Girardot), Rivka’s son, uncovers evidence that his father may have been a Nazi sympathizer. As Victor attempts to understand his father’s war time actions, Rivka becomes tight lipped about her marriage during wartime. Like any good drama, the mystery is not resolved until the final three minutes of the film.
With a running time of 90 minutes, **One Day You’ll Understand** is a psychological mystery of genealogy. Like **Two Lovers,** One Day You’ll Understand** is a performance driven motion picture. Even in a foreign language, Jeanne Moreau communicates noble suffering to the English speaking office.
