Lon Chaney Jr. is 3rd billed in "The Cyclops."

Besides the title character, Lon Chaney Jr. is the most interesting thing in "The Cyclops." Chaney portrays Mr. Manville, the opportunist who complains all the time and loses his nerve frequently. Once can guess Mr. Manville's special effects fate before the closing credits.

Gloria Talbot is the leading lady who searches for her lost boyfriend in a valley full of uranium. At one point Talbot witnesse monster violence. Talbot's reaction is not fear, but she looks like she is sexually turned on. What the scene and see if you don't agree.

"Springfireld Rifle" Civil War intrigue with Gary Cooper and Lon Chaney Jr.

Released after his Oscar winning performance in "High Noon," Gary Cooper costarred with Lon Chaney Jr. again in "Springfield Rifle." Often considered the weaker companion piece of the two, "Springfield Rifle" holds up as a colorful western with a serpentine plot.

Midway through the film, Chaney & Cooper have a fight on a snowy mountain top. The ending is supposed to be funny, but it actually quite shocking and is a sad commentary about Lon Chaney Jr.'s fading career.

Avuncular Lon in "Apache Uprising"

Rory Calhoun is the traditional cowboy hero and John Russell is the boss of the bad guys, but Arthur C. Hunnicutt and Lon Chaney Jr. are the conscience of "Apache Uprising." Hunnicutt has the best lines and insults, but Chaney's character, Charlie Russell - the best reinsman in the stagecoach business - is a pacifist who seems to be enjoying this dangerous ride.
