On the opposite end of the movie spectrum is **Here and There,** a low budget independent motion picture making the rounds in South Florida. Produced by singer Cyndi Lauper (who plays a supporting role and sings the final song), **Here and There** features another globetrotting narrative featuring the sights and sounds of New York City and Serbia.
Unlike the broad landscape and international intrigue of **The A Team,** **Now and There** focuses on the plight of a depressive New Yorker and a Serbian woman who wants to emigrate. The film starts off dark and slow, but there is a payoff in the final act that celebrates the American Dream.
At high noon last Friday afternoon, there was a buzz in the air at Muvico Pompano that said, "The Summer Blockbusters season has begun!" The atmosphere was electric with alert staff and students who were emancipated from school. Unlike the false start of the recent Memorial Day weekend, the product opening last weekend seemed more, fun.
While **The Karate Kid** was the recent box office champion, **The A Team** opened strong. An iconic television show from the eighties, this remake is given modern special effects, outrageous action sequences and a rousing musical score. **The A Team** also features two closing gags at the end of the credits that will make fan loyalists cheer.
The best part of the **The A Team** is character introductions. Hannibal Smith (Liam Neeson) reveals his leadership potential while being tortured by Mexican border gangsters with nasty rottweilers. Face (Bradley Cooper) is facing death by tire burning because he flirted with the gangster's moll. B A Baracus ( Quinton "Rampage" Jackson) is concerned about the love of his life, a big black GMC van. The maverick pilot, Murdock ( Sharlto Copley), has the easy life in a mental institution When these four diverse men meet, **The A Team** is formed.
Eight years and eighty successful missions later, **The A Team** is sent on a mission to Baghdad to obtain a plate used for making United States currency. The mission is successful, but a counter spy steals the plate and blackmails the A-Team.
**The A Team** spend the rest of the movie trying to clear their name while traveling through Germany and San Francisco in an effort to find the counterfeiters. Some of the action sequences work, some suffer from attention deficit disorder editing, but the camaraderie between the four men and busted intelligence officer Jessica Biel create a high level of fun.
