Lent Day 39 Elmer Bernstein

Composer Elmer Bernstein would be 87 years old today if he lived.
Like John Williams, Elmer Bernstein created great, magnificent musical scores that sounded great in a real movie theater.

Bernstein scored many John Wayne films, from "True Grit" to "The Shootist." Within a few years, Bernstein scored the jazzy "The Man With the Golden Arm" starring Frank Sinatra, "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "The Great Escape." He did not win a Oscar for any of those classic scores, but he did win for "Thoroughly Modern Millie"
