This local competition is how the South Florida Blues Society (SFBS) will choose a band or solo/duo artist to represent us at the International Blues Challenge (IBC) to be held in Memphis, Tennessee, on February 1-3, 2007.
The International Blues Challenge (IBC) represents an international search by The Blues Foundation (the SFBS parent organization) and its affiliated organizations (mainly Blues societies) to identify the Blues band and solo/duo Blues act who are ready to perform on a national stage and looking for that extra break. The International Blues Challenge’s goal is to seek out the best-undiscovered Blues band and the best-undiscovered solo/duo Blues performer in the United States and beyond. As a result of all the talented acts, the International Blues Challenge has risen to an incredible height of accomplishment.
The IBC has evolved into the nation’s biggest and most respected showcase for Blues musicians ready to take their act to the national stage. The IBC in Memphis TN is a judged “Battle of the Bands;” competitors take the stage and play a short set. Judges rate the acts on an established set of criteria. The IBC grows more exciting each year and the competition gets better and better. The Blues Foundation boasts 145 Affiliated Organizations. More Blues organizations in additional areas means the worldwide search for talent grows more comprehensive each year.
Each affiliated organization of The Blues Foundation has the right to sponsor a band and solo/duo act to represent them at the IBC Semi-Finals on Beale Street in Memphis, TN. The South Florida Blues Society (SFBS) hosts this local competition to choose a band or solo/duo artist who will represent us at the International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis, Tennessee, on February 1-3, 2007.
Most affiliates stage a regional preliminary IBC competition with the winner of the local competition representing the organization at the Memphis international competition. Last year, the SFBS selected JOEY GILMORE and he took First Place!!! Six judges will evaluate the 11 acts based on Blues content and originality of their material, pure talent and stage presence. The winner will represent the SFBS in Memphis in February!
