Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF) unveiled their official poster for the 21st Annual Event at a cocktail reception held August 17 from 6:00 p.m to 8:00pm at Las Olas Fine Arts Gallery.
Guests enjoyed live music provided by local guitarist Michael Corbin, Hors’douvres from Mangos Restaurant and wines from Premier Beverage. Sponsors of the event were Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival Board members Tom and Ginny Miller, Tom and Maryrose Mullane, Pat & Sandy McCallum.
Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival’s President and CEO, Gregory von Hausch announced the opening night film for the 21st Annual event, Pedro Almodovar’s VOLVER, and spoke about the variety of films and parties that festival goers can look forward to attending.
Von Hausch then introduced the artist of the Official Poster for the 21sr Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, Monica Obregon, at which time the poster was unveiled by von Haush and Stephan Roux, owner of the Las Olas Fine Arts Gallery.
Monica Obregon, an Honors Program student at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, designed the FLIFF 2006 Poster. The Honors Program at AIFL is a fully functioning design agency working under the name "Artemis Design Group" which services many non-profit organizations in the community as a way to give back. Though this program, students, like Monica, have the opportunity to gain "real world" experience. As a design group, the program has received numerous awards while competing against professionals in the industry. FLIFF is just one of many they have assisted.
Monica’s inspiration for the FLIFF poster design sprung from a combination of the natural tropical landscapes and beaches of Fort Lauderdale and Monica's homeland, Venezuela. The bottle, on our sandy beaches, with the ship in the distance, represents a way to bring a message from great distances to points around the world; much like the FLIFF brings us a look at life in other countries through film. Monica is seeking a bachelor degree in Advertising from the Art Institute.
The 21st Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival begins October 20 and concludes November 12, 2006. For details about films and events, advance ticket sales visit www.FLIFF.com or call 954-525-3456.
