"The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad" was from the post WWII Walt Disney Animation studios. As many of the artists went overseas to defend the nation, Walt Disney churned out several short stories and novellas to meet theatre managers demand.
"The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad" features two short stories, Washington Irving's "Legend of Sleepy Hallow" and Kenneth Grahame's "The Wind in the Willows." Basil Rathbone narrates the latter story which features the wild ride of Mr. Toad, a wealthy character with OCD.
Bing Crosby narrates the "Ichabod" portion of the story. Unlike the scares that are generated by Washington Irving's short story, this "Ichabod" is played for laughs and goofy music. It is interesting to note how this tale has translated by time. Ichabod is a womanizer outsider who runs afoul of Brom Bones, a good looking prankster. Fifty years later, Johnny Depp po portrayed Ichabod as a teen aged little girl, who solves mysteries instead of teaching school in Tim Burton's adaptation of "Sleepy Hollow."
