Be careful if you start humming the major theme song for "The Producers" as a movie musical - CinemaDave

Dec. 29th, 2005 08:11 pm Be careful if you start humming the major theme song for "The Producers" as a movie musical

This new version of "The Producers" is as much fun as the first,
though I would still trade Gene Wilder for Matthew Broderick.
The scene where Gene Wilder goes ballistic over his blue blanket still makes me giggle when I think about it. In this new version, the blue blanket becomes a thematic device. Broderick seems to be recreating Ferris Bueller.

Will Ferrell belongs in the mad world of Mel Brooks as the screen writing Nazi. Somehow he makes this excuse for a human being, endearing. Ferrel manages to recreate some of his funniest moments from the original "Austin Powers" movies.

Nathan Lane and many of the Tony Award winning ensemble return. The chemistry is still there.
Though I wished for cameo appearances by Lee Meredith, Renee' Taylor, Kenneth Mars and Gene Wilder.

The Boca Raton crowd that I saw this movie with on Christmas Eve applauded this movie during
the movies tap dancing finale. These individuals paid full admission for this light hearted romp.
"The Producers" is not a must see, but a fun see and two hours of pure escapism...
until you start humming the music for "Springtime for Hitler."
