The new "Star Trek" is the best movie of 2009. Despite a five month delay, this film was worth the wait. "Star Trek" revived the franchise by creating an entertaining and humorous motion picture that deepens the mythology of the franchise. Perfection is achieved when viewing "Star Trek" on the 60 story tall Fort Lauderdale Museum of Discovery IMAX screen. Leave a comment
Despite four spin off television shows of the next "Star Trek" generation, none of the new generation ever achieved the iconic and folkloric status of Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, Dr. Bones McCoy and Scotty. New creator J.J. Abrams found the correct balance of introducing Gene Roddenberry's original characters to a new audience while honoring the expectations of the core Trekies and Trekers.
The new ensemble of actors deserve kudos for bringing Mr. Spock (Zachery Quinto), Dr. McCoy (Karl Urban) and Scotty (Simon Pegg) back to life, it is the characters on the screen that are presented. For story emphasis, this new ensemble of actors avoid the distraction of worrying if an old actor's toupee will fall off during an action sequence.
Despite some spectacular visuals and great one liners of dialog, Leonard Nimoy's appearance drew the most applause. Nimoy has always been respectful to the "Star Trek" fan base and it is appropriate that the actor wears those pointy ears one more time. Nimoy's appearance adds validity to this new enterprise. "Star Trek" is a must see on the Imax Screen at the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Discovery.
