RiP Patrick McGoohan 1928 - 2009 - CinemaDave

Jan. 14th, 2009 08:04 pm RiP Patrick McGoohan 1928 - 2009

When I was young,
Patrick McGoohan was "Secret Agent Man" and became "The Prisoner." With the exception of a few "Columbo" episodes, the actor seemed to enjoy portraying a suave villain in flicks like "Silver Streak" and Clint Eastwood's rival in "Escape from Alcatraz." Even though the actor was in his late sixties, Patrick McGoohan was a strong adversary to challenge Mel Gibson's "Braveheart."

"The Prisoner" was Patrick McGoohan's creation. This 17 part series is fun to watch and each episode was thought provoking. The last episode was deliberately confusing but was fun to watch and features a Beatles song.

A sad loss of a versatile actor. "The Prisoner" reruns are remarkably fresh, several decades after their first airing.

Analog Technology

This is another series that I own.
The analog technology seems to fit into the weirdness of the show, as science fiction, "The Prisoner" does not date or seem stale.

Take the pilot episode of "Star Trek,"
Jeffrey Hunter asks Mr. Spock something to the affect;

"Space tape, where would we be without space tape?"

In the background on the bridege of the starship enterprise - are reel-to-real tape recorders!
