"Strength and Honour" is Michael Madsen's opportunity to play the leading man like John Wayne or Sylvester Stallone. Shot in Ireland, "Strength and Honour" recalls the plot of "The Quiet Man" with Vinnie (Juggernaut from "X-Men The Last Stand) Jones in the Victor McLagen role as the antagonist. Richard Chamberlain portrays the Burgess Meredith type character from "Rocky," the fight manager with a heart of gold.Leave a comment
Sean (Madsen) accidentally kills a friend in the boxing ring. Sean vows never to fight again, but when his son falls ill, Sean is forced to raise cash, fast. With the help of the trailer park landlord (Patrick Bergin), Sean trains hard to fight one more battle against a determined and sadistic foe. Unlike the glory days of leather gloves, Sean participates in bare knuckle brawls.
We have seen this all before in "The Quiet Man," "Rocky" and "Cinderella Man," yet "Strenth and Honour" is still a good movie for a father to take his son to go see.
