"Wedding Crashers" won't make it to the wedding night - CinemaDave

Aug. 6th, 2005 07:56 am "Wedding Crashers" won't make it to the wedding night

"Wedding Crashers" is a desperate movie. The box office has been good and it has been fueled by sports talk radio station gossip than by anything else.

The first half is funny and Isla Fisher should be named newcomer of the year. Fisher portrays the daughter of Christopher Walken and Jane Seymour. Much has been written about Jane Seymour's big nude scene, but it is tame and will likely to be seen in it's entirety on the FOX Network. Fisher's aggressive nude scene is performed by a body double.

Former Queen Bee from "Mean Girls" and now serious actress from "The Notebook," Rachel MacAdams is a likable rich girl damsel in distress. Henry Gibson from the 1960's NBC television "Laugh In" has a priest who has heard too many confessions.

The flaw with the movie is the "Wedding Crashers" themselves, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. One gets the feeling that they called each other to schedule a free week, improvised a script and then called some pals like Wil Ferrel to provide some cameos.

The first half of the movie is funny, saved by the supporting character's performances. When the "will she or won't she" plot kicks in, "Wedding Crashers" takes on a maudlin tone. The film's climax ends with yet another public confession by the sensitive leading man and all ends kinkier ever after.
