Sing Out For Lung Health Awareness - Tribute To Beverly Sills - CinemaDave

Jul. 22nd, 2007 04:07 pm Sing Out For Lung Health Awareness - Tribute To Beverly Sills

Few opera stars have ever captured the imagination of the American public as Beverly Sills. Her glorious singing, compelling dramatic sense, and sparkling personality contributed to the unprecedented growth of American Opera. It seems ironic that Sills, an Opera star whose breathing techniques are essential to her art, passed away July 2, 2007 from inoperable lung cancer.

In honor of this world-renowned icon and to help generate greater awareness in preventing lung disease, the Florida Grand Opera (FGO), Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF), WPBT Channel 2, and the American Lung Association of Florida will present a special tribute to celebrate the life and career of Beverly Sills.

The event takes place at Cinema Paradiso, Tuesday, August 7 beginning with a fully catered reception at 6:00pm. At 7:00pm, Justin Moss, Managing Director for Marketing & Communication for Florida Grand Opera, will discuss Sills' remarkable career in a program illustrated by a film of Beverly Sills performing her most famous roles on the opera stage.

The American Lung Association will provide pamphlets about Lung Health including such issues as Asthma, Lung Cancer, COPD and information about how to get involved with the American Lung Association. Breathe Easy Bracelets, and Asthma Walk Teddy Bears will be available for purchase and will benefit The American Lung Association.
