FLiFF: "Son of Man" could be "Song of Man" - CinemaDave

Oct. 10th, 2006 11:14 am FLiFF: "Son of Man" could be "Song of Man"

In contrast to a big budgeted "Ben Hur A Tale of the
Christ" or "The Passion of the Christ," "Son of
Man" features simple heartfelt theology, a myth of
Jesus set in modern South Africa with English
subtitles. Not that one would need reading too much,
"Son of Man" is good old fashioned visual cinema.
Those expecting an Alfred Newman "Song of
Bernadette" soundtrack will be disappointed, but the
folk music from South Africa is inspiring.
"Son of Man" is a special entry for Christians who do not attend Film Festivals.

A lot of cultures around the world have stories of a holy man with 12 devoted companions who lived before and after Jesus Christ. It's always fascinating when a filmmaker experiments with time and place to tell the story of Christ.

One thing my religion minor taught me was to make my beliefs simpler. The beauty of "Son of Man" was the simple faith of the film makers.
